the story behind {atmalogy}

how we came to be

-the journey-

The journey that led her to birthing Atmalogy is worth telling. Heather Riney is the creative soul behind Atmalogy. She's a connector, a person who supports and inspires others. Heather worked in the accounting world and the healthcare world, and although she was successful, something wasn't right. She knew this life wasn't the one she wanted, and she bravely left the comfort of a good career to find her true calling. She traveled to Mexico and dove into a yoga teacher training.

During her training she met other like minded adventurers, people also following their hearts and overcoming their fears. The connections she made on that trip brought her serendipitously to India, a trip that changed Heather's life. For a while it was wanderlust; the travel bug had bitten her, and she flowed freely from one place to another. She visited India, Thailand, Vietnam, and other places in Southeast Asia. She tried new things -- scuba diving, 10 day silent meditation, cuddling with a tiger, connecting with locals. In every city, Heather explored the cafes.

The cafes had a pulse, and that pulse was strong and cleansing. Heather kept a blog during her travels, and her observations on the cafes is so astute and touching. She writes: Cafes for travelers naturally are a community. We are all seeking, and this bonds us. We talk, not of what we do or the weather, but of what we have seen, what we have experienced, who we have met.

-the result-

The cafes and the connections they created resonated deeply with Heather. A tiny seed was planted during her travels, and that seed grew and was nurtured until it became Atmalogy.

Atmalogy is about connection. Real connection. Atmalogy gives us a place to get deeper than the weather, deeper than the jobs we have that don't define us. It's a place that welcomes you with open arms, a place that helps you drop the veil and see what really is.

You know how this story ends. After her travels, she could not go back to the corporate world. She had a rustling in her bones; she had a dream to breathe life into. And that, my friends, is how Atmalogy was conceived.

This was written by Jessica Bates. She is a friend, author & leader of Atmalogy's book club.
